Griffith Khayi Kesekwa

Griffith Khayi Kesekwa (born in Vihiga County, Kenya) is a Kenyan educator, linguist and entrepreneur. He is best known for his contributions to French language instruction in Kenya and for founding Doyen Publishers, a publishing and educational consultancy firm. Kesekwa has taught in both Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and Cambridge International curriculum and has received national recognition for his work in the promotion of language education.

 

Early Life and Education

Griffith Khayi Kesekwa was born in Vihiga County, Kenya. He began his education at Sunrise Preparatory School, where he completed his Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE). He later attended Nabwani Primary School and completed his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2015. In 2019, he completed his Secondary Education at Friends School Senende with a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), earning a B+ grade.

 

Kesekwa pursued higher education at Kenyatta University, where he earned a Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree in French and Geography in 2023, graduating with Second Class Upper Division honors. During his studies, he also obtained professional certifications in French from Alliance Française de Nairobi, achieving levels DELF A1 to B2. Additionally, he completed a certificate course in computer application and Data Science at Magnatech Computer Institute in 2020.

 

Career

Kesekwa began his teaching career with voluntary and part-time roles, including teaching French and training students in public speaking and choral verse for the Kenya National Music Festivals. He later held teaching positions at institutions such as Acacia Brook Schools, Citadel School of Talents and Shepherds Junior School, where he taught French, Geography, Social Studies and Global Perspectives.

 

In addition to classroom teaching, Kesekwa works as an online French tutor for The Language Guru Foundation, providing language instruction remotely. He has also worked as a French-English translator for Bimeda Limited Kenya.

Kesekwa has participated in several professional development programs, including training on Learning Management Systems, ICT in education and digital lesson planning through EDUVOD Africa, the Digital Education Africa Network (DEAN) and CBC App Kenya.

 

Doyen Publishers

In 2023, Griffith Khayi Kesekwa founded Doyen Publishers, an educational publishing and consultancy firm based in Nairobi, Kenya. The company specializes in developing and publishing educational materials tailored to the both Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and Cambridge International curriculum.

Leadership and Advocacy

Throughout his academic journey, Kesekwa held several leadership positions. He served as Finance Secretary for the Kenyatta University Students Association (KUSA) from 2021 to 2022. In high school, he was Chairperson of the French Club and served as Senior School Prefect. He was also School President at Nabwani Primary School in 2015.

Kesekwa is fluent in French, English and Swahili and has beginner-level proficiency in Spanish. His interests include reading French literature, handball, creative writing and cultural exchange. He is also passionate about digital education and curriculum development.
